"La Vie Sur le Bayou" Mural for Walmart
In 2023 I had the unique opportunity to create an illustrated mural for Walmart.
Walmart remodeled 117 stores in 2023, adding interactive displays and a friendlier customer experience. Part of their initiative included hiring artists from the community where each store was located to create a welcoming mural in the entrance area. These murals welcome customers and feature the community’s local interests, history and charm.
I was chosen to create a mural for the new Walmart in Prairieville, Louisiana. My illustration is bright and colorful and features a Louisiana bayou with an alligator, marsh birds, catfish and flowers. There are also references to the annual Prairieville Jambalaya Festival and unique creole architecture. At 20 feet tall and 16 feet wide, the mural is the largest piece I’ve ever created. It was quite an experience gazing up at my work in such an enormous scale!
La Vie Sur le Bayou
Life on the Louisiana Bayou is rich and joyful — filled with friends and family, story and song. "La Vie Sur le Bayou" is a colorful celebration of this magical, vibrant life. Look closely and you'll see an alligator dancing while catfish play and a turtle sings. A majestic egret bows and a sly serpent slithers. The story continues with musical instruments, birds and flowers, a pot of jambalaya and a welcoming home.
